International Masters Programme in Geophysics

PROGRAMME AT A GLANCE

  • offered jointly by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and Technical University Munich (two of Germany's elite universities)
  • international programme, language of instruction is English
  • programme duration: 4 semesters, 120 credit points (ECTS)
  • modular organisation of courses
  • programme start: only in winter terms
  • specialisation possible in either Geodynamics, Seismology or Paleo- and Geomagnetism
  • strong focus on modelling and simulation: a sound background in mathematics and physics is expected from our applicants
  • final degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.)

PROGRAMME'S FOCUS

Our master's programme has a strong focus on modelling and simulation. Hence, a sound background in mathematics (minimally linear algebra and multidimensional calculus, preferably also ordinary differential equations) and physics is expected from our applicants.

If your interest is in applied geophysics, especially exploration seismology, or related techniques, then this is not the right programme for you. Our programme does not focus on these topics. We do not teach these topics and we do not do research on these topics.

ACCREDITATION

The programme is fully accredited. For complete details please consult the entry in the database of the German Accreditation Council.
