Rotational hysteresis losses of 10 nm gamma-Fe2O3 particles at 130 K of a water-based ferrofluid and of particles produced by bacteria

Abstract

Data of rotational hysteresis losses W-RH, at 130 K are reported for 10 nm gamma-Fe2O3 particles of a ferrofluid and of 10 nm particles, intermediate in composition between Fe3O4 and gamma-Fe2O3, produced by bacteria. From high-field data it is concluded that for both kinds of particles there are either centers or surface areas of high anisotropy giving rise to exchange interactions.
