Capturing Domain Curvature via Blending

Abstract
Not all PDE problems are posed on polygonal domains which can exactly be meshed by triangulations. A standard approach in Finite Element methods is the use of iso- or superparameteric elements to deform triangles or tetrahedra in order to increase the approximation of curved domain boundaries. An alternative is to use a collection of explicit blending maps which allow to exactly describe the domain. In this talk we are going to take a look at the blending approach, how it affects the bilinear forms in a Finite Element formulation and describe how this is implemented within the HyTeG framework.
