International Masters Programme in Geophysics

The programme at a glance:


  • programme offered jointly by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and Technical University Munich (two of Germany's elite universities)
  • international programme, language of instruction is English
  • programme duration: 4 semesters, 120 credit points (ECTS)
  • modular organisation of courses
  • enrolment only in winter term
  • specialisation possible in either Geodynamics, Seismology or Paleo- and Geomagnetism
  • final degree: Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Application Periods

The application windows and deadlines for winter term 2017/2018 are as follows:

Non-EU citizens (excluding 'Bildungsinländer') 01 November 2016 28 Februar 2017
EU citizens (excluding Germans and 'Bildungsinländer') 01 March 2017 31 May 2017
Germans citizens and 'Bildungsinländer' 01 March 2017 31 August 2017

A 'Bildungsinländer' in the context of application to our programme is a person having obtained a bachelor's degree from a German university. If your bachelor's degree is not from a German university, you are not counting as 'Bildungsinländer'. A master's degree from a German university does also not make you a 'Bildungsinländer' for our purposes.

As a 'Bildungsinländer' please consider the possible necessity of obtaining a VISA when timing your application.
